This parish is on the peninsula Alftanes just south of Reykjavik. Bessastaðir has been a site of a church since around the year 1000. The current church was consecrated in 1796, making it one of the oldest cemented stone buildings in Iceland. The buildings in the background are the official residence of the President of Iceland and date to the early 19th century.
