In the 1970's over 3,000 people were employed at Massey Ferguson, but after several years of declining sales and reorganization, the Brantford plant was closed on March 4, 1988. Some of the buildings were leased by small local businesses up until about nine years ago. Plans are in place that will see the land gradually reclaimed for a mix of residential, commercial and park space.
